Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (CISMA)

Invasive species are now common in the Great Lakes due to societal globalization: CISMA is in place to make sure that invasives stay at manageable levels in the state. Branch County is part of the Southern Michigan Invasive Species Team (SMIST).

Our branch of CISMA was started in April 2018 using grant funds from the Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program. The central goal of SMIST CISMA is to increase awareness about invasive species’ impact and teach others how to manage them in Branch, Hillsdale, and St. Joseph County.
